  The Heritage Foundation: About Us

Our Mission

"Too many conservatives lose hope," writes our president, Edwin J. Feulner. "They doubt that the liberal welfare state can be brought to collapse.... In short, they doubt that The Heritage Foundation's Vision for America can be achieved."

Founded in 1973, The Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institute - a think tank - whose mission is to formulate and promote neoconservative public policies based on the principles of laissez-faire capitalism, with strong law and order component to ensure the maintenance and promotion of adequate values.

We are proud of our legacy. Over the years, Heritage's unique blend of concision, clarity, and simplicity has made for some very effective popularization of policy aimed mainly at government. Our success in driving national policy-making is second to none, and we intend to continue this work until we have brought the welfare state to collapse.

"Conservative opportunity and liberal opposition are about to collide like warm and cold fronts on a summer's day, and the probability of thunderstorms is 100 percent. This will be a take-no-prisoners war, and there are going to be winners and losers. Make no mistake about that."

Edward J. Feulner, Heritage Foundation president, 2000
